GP,
you may be interested in this manifold I don't need , stainless TIG welded with a SU carb . If you didn't like the SU you could fit a throttle body from Rotec radial  www.rotecradialengines.com        Should help keep the weight down

Echo, what did you do with the missing thermostat? How did you regulate your water temp using that manifold?

Chook ,
the thermo is not missing ....... I know exactly where it is ....  Wink

Housing from a 2001 TL 1000 Suzuki motorbike ( V twin ) , has the option of two temps thermostats. Even has a spot that you can drill & tap for temp sender . About $120 , maybe a bit more now .
The '85 Honda VF 750 also has a housing that can be used , but may not be available anymore..... unless you can locate one at a wreckers.

Thanks Echo. I am rebuilding a recently purchased Amax machine where the manifold thermostat location has had the thermostat removed and a pipe welded in to allow the starter motor access. They have placed a manual valve in the water pump side to control the temp. As if you don't have enough on your mind flying without also manually controlling your water temp! The other consideration is that thermostats are usually placed amongst the metal of the engine so that there is some heat storage. This gives a smoother action without a series of quick open/ shut cycles on the part of the thermostat and prevents temperature shocks to the system.

        Regards..........Chook.

 I agree , Chook , a manual valve is'nt ideal .
If you want to try the manifold you can have it & give it a go . The Suzuki thermo is a self contained unit & just sits between the inlets & you just run a short length of hose to each outlet , the main hose goes to the radiator . Get a VDO sender & guage & the jobs done.
 Sorry to get off topic.
The weight of a Bing Carby would only be 200-300gms at the most (?) Not much when you think a T-bone & chips & two schooners would be close to a kilo .......  Wink
